Before the winter rains, we were giving Kirisame (Bonayr’s Merrol Flynn Mizzle) and Kaminari (Hickory Creek’s My Name Is Mearl) herding “lite” lessons.
That means instead of having two ten-minute sessions with the sheep, each got one ten-minute session. After we returned, we were concerned about the heat in the inland desert areas.
With a slight cooling trend, we’ve started up again. We had a different instructor previously. Janna Duncan likes that Kirisame is slow and controlled. He sometimes decides to take the many to the few. He’s always thinking.
We’re working on his stamina with flat work during the weak and some workouts in the sandpits (we call them Shamus or doggie jumping jacks).
